Depart Nairobi early and drive to Nanyuki for registration before heading to Sirimon Gate (2,650m). After a briefing, begin a gentle 9km hike through a beautiful montane forest and bamboo zone. Arrive at Old Moses Camp (3,300m) for dinner and overnight. This day helps with acclimatization while offering great views of the lowlands and the forested slopes.
After breakfast, trek across the expansive Mackinder Valley, one of the most scenic sections of the mountain. The trail passes moorland studded with giant lobelias and groundsels. Arrive at Shipton’s Camp (4,200m), set below the dramatic peaks of Batian, Nelion, and Point Lenana. Spend the evening acclimatizing and enjoying the rugged alpine scenery.
This is a short hiking day designed to prepare your body for summit night. Take an acclimatization hike to Kami Hut or explore the high ridges around the camp. Return to Shipton’s for relaxation, hydration, and early dinner. Strong acclimatization increases your chances of a successful summit.
Start the summit attempt at 2:00 AM. Trek across the rocky scree with headlamps, gaining elevation steadily as the stars light your path. Reach Point Lenana (4,985m) at sunrise—an unforgettable moment with panoramic views of Mt Kenya’s jagged peaks and the vast mountain ranges beyond. After photos, descend via the Naro Moru Route to Mackinder’s Camp, where you will rest and enjoy a warm meal.
After breakfast, descend through the moorland and the stunning vertical bog, eventually reaching Met Station (3,050m). Continue down to Naro Moru Gate, where your driver awaits. Begin the return journey to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.
