8-Day Mount Kenya Climbing Itinerary – Sirimon–Chogoria Route

Mount Kenya, Africa’s second-highest mountain, offers a spectacular mix of lush forests, alpine meadows, rugged peaks, and glittering glaciers. The Sirimon–Chogoria Route is widely considered the most beautiful and gradual climb, perfect for beginners who want to enjoy both the journey and the summit.


Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi – Transfer to Nanyuki (2,000m)

Arrive in Nairobi, Kenya’s vibrant capital, where you’ll meet your mountain guide for a briefing and gear check. After lunch, drive north to Nanyuki, a charming town at the foot of Mount Kenya. Spend the evening acclimatizing and exploring the town.

Day 2: Nanyuki – Sirimon Gate – Old Moses Camp (3,300m)

After breakfast, drive to Sirimon Gate (2,650m) at Mount Kenya National Park. Begin your trek through towering cedar and podo forests, spotting colobus monkeys and forest birds along the way.

Day 3: Old Moses Camp – Shipton’s Camp (4,200m)

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Shipton’s Camp

After celebrating your achievement, descend down the Chogoria route to Mintos Camp for breakfast and rest.

Day 6: Mintos Camp – Meru Bandas (2,950m)

Day 7: Meru Bandas – Chogoria Town – Transfer to Nairobi

After breakfast, take a leisurely hike or 4×4 drive down to Chogoria Town, where your driver awaits. Return to Nairobi, arriving by evening.

Day 8: Departure / Optional Excursion

Depending on your flight schedule, you can enjoy a city tour, visit the Giraffe Centre or Nairobi National Park, or relax before your onward journey.
